Get Out There

By "out there" I mean I mean Starbucks. Glued to your laptop/notebook.

At some point along your life journey, the beauty of words fascinated you. From there, you discovered love, and sacrifice, and distant lands beyond the boundaries of our physical world. Books took you places you could never travel to. Characters became friends. New friends and words were formed in your mind as you lay down to sleep.

You became a writer the moment you set your pen to the paper/fingers to the keys. That was the moment you crossed the starting line. When you said, "I'm going to go, and I'm going to see where it takes me."

Since then, reality has set in. Writing was not as easy as you thought it was. You had no idea just how daring and bold stepping out into the creativity of your mind was. You might have even regretted beginning. You learned the insanity of grammar, the general rules of writing fiction, and just how hard it is to land a publisher.

But through all of this, I warn you not to forget that you started writing to travel through the unknown. And even though the unknown tends to be a dark and twisted place, you have complete control over it. It only takes persistence.

So get motivated. Buy yourself a latte, or put on some tea. Crank up your writing music and paste yourself to your chair.

You started for a reason.
